Apple Patent Signals Revolutionary 3D-to-2D VR Technology

A recently published patent application filed by Apple Inc. suggests the Cupertino giant will offer a new virtual reality (VR) solution, taking on VR leaders Oculus Rift and HTC.

The Apple patent application details a complex system that generates a hyperrealistic three-dimensional virtual reality — reported to finally cross the Uncanny Valley — that is then re-processed and reduced into a low resolution two-dimensional image for the end user. In a rare display public candor, Apple issued a press release about the new product, currently codenamed Apple Eyes.
